By Eric Zitzow - Combine the lightning-fast cartwheel and screw ability of a short squirt boat, the incredible downtime potential of a long classic squirt boat, the dynamic surfing performance of a flat-hulled playboat, and what have you got? The Angst.

ANGST
The Angst was the boat that started the design trend in squirt boats toward shorter length and flatter hulls, and it still performs at the front of the pack in all areas of the squirt lexicon. It’s short (7’11”), comfortable (biggest footbumps in the industry), and has a hull that can best be described as half displacement, half planing. It starts at the bow as a pure, round displacement shape, develops some discreet chines around the knee area, and finishes as a full-on flat planing hull with hard chines and flat sidewalls. The boat performs very well in a variety of conditions; it sinks mystery moves in the same league as the classic Jim Snyder designs, swaps ends quickly and gracefully through the vertical and past vertical planes, and shreds waves and holes like a playboat. It’s a great river-runner as well; the rounded, turned-up bow rides up over turbulence instead of burying in it, the stern chines make the boat very responsive, and the narrow overall width lends it surprising speed for such a short boat. Paddlers with an inseam of around 30-34” who are searching for one squirt boat to do it all may not have to look any further than the Angst!

The Angst has had a strong record of competition results since its introduction in 1997. Just a few of the top placings for the Angst include Silver and Bronze medals at the 1997 World Freestyle Championships, 3rd at the Y2K US Mystery Nationals, 2nd at both the 2001/2002 US Mystery Nationals, 4th at the 2002 US National Championships (Men’s Squirt), and 3rd at the 2001 Ottawa JimiCup. URGE
Squirt boat designer, Eric Zitzow's latest offering has the potential to turn the squirt world on its head. The Urge was inspired by technology and not tradition. By increasing the fun and comfort a whole new world of boating will open up for a new generation that has never even seen a glass boat.

The new boat is the shortest squirt ever made at 7 feet even. The rocker profile goes against the norm with 6 inches of rocker in the bow and 5 inches in the stern. At 24 inches wide at it widest point just fore of the cockpit it provides a stable platform for learning newbies.

It is widely know that different shapes affect performance in various ways, but the most important element is the overall size and volume. This boat has it where it counts—or we should say doesn't have it where it counts. With shortened aspect ratio and rockered ends you can actually surf small waves again, and even spin with the ample surface area. When you are done surfing go ahead and do a meltdown on your way out because this boat goes down for a mystery move smoothly and with ease. The chines offer a soft enough transition to allow smooth sinking. The chines are also far enough from the outside edge to allow water to wrap at the lower velocities found while entering a mystery move.
