By Jim Snyder - These are tried and tested squirt designs that have been around for ten years or so, and are still purchased new. Folks these days use them as pure downtime machines, or (in larger chops) as fast river-runners. Their main characteristics are length and smooth, wing-shaped cross-sections with soft, round leading edges. For downtime, they are almost unbeatable; they consistently place in the very top echelons of big downtime competitions like the US Mystery Nationals and the Ottawa JimiCup. BIGFOOT
A long, slick super-sinker that will accommodate larger paddlers with a 32-37 inseam. This boat is one of the classic squirt designs, and still performs at the leading edge of the sport when it comes to sinking big mystery moves. Though its a long boat in comparison to todays shorter squirts, the extra length combined with the soft, round hull
makes it fast and stable in difficult whitewater. The Bigfoot has a true wing shape in cross-section, so its forte is navigating underwater with control and slicing through graceful and picturesque screws and cartwheels. It is a comfortable boat that can accommodate a large range of paddler sizes and weights.SHRED
Perhaps the most popular squirt design of all time, the Shred is the mystery boat for folks with an inseam measuring between 28-32. Building on the strengths of its predecessor (the Prize), the boat retains excellent mystery-move ability but is shorter (96) and slightly more heavily rockered to make it quick and stable in turbulent conditions. In cross-section, the Shred has a fat leading edge and soft chines, making it sink soft and spin smoothly while
navigating underwater or slicing through past-vertical screw maneuvers. For pure downtime, the Shred is tough to beat it has proven itself to be a top-placing contender in mystery competitions worldwide.![]() |
